It was a very well-made film. Incredible trippy visuals. Raimi recaptured his “Evil Dead” horror roots in a fresh surprising way.
Characterization was on point and the movie moved at a fun speedy pace, similar to “Ragnarok” and “Infinity War” in that sense, where there are very few momenta stealing slow scenes.
There was a lot of heart, great action, and better placed, more subtle humor than some MCU films.
However, this film unfairly had a ridiculous amount of hype and expectations built around it. But this was not Multiverse cross-franchise Avengers, it was a Doctor Strange movie with a few little surprises and some quite subtle easter eggs.
In terms of negative, I had a handful of specific nitpicks, but my major deflation wasn’t the film's fault (maybe some of the marketing), it was false expectations.
Synopsis: Dr. Strange found himself in a situation where he had to protect a multiversal traveler named American Chavez from an unknown threat. So Dr. Strange went to seek help from Wanda as she knew about the multiverse. And that would open a whole another cattle of fish.
My opinion:
I was a little disappointed after watching this movie. The ending was lame.
There are full inconsistencies and plot holes, and contradictions throughout this movie.
Where can I start?
1. Another universe' Monica Captain Marvel was shown here as wimpy with just cosmic energy.
She was dead after being smashed by a huge statue. If we go by comics, Captain Marvel is way more durable and powerful than that. Even Captain Marvel from Captain Marvel movie was able to destroy Thanos' ship just like Superman did one of General Zod's ships in Man of Steel. So it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
2. Reed Richards was shown as nothing more than a big mouth with stretchy manpower with a title called World's smartest man.
In comics, he built a machine that sucks any kind of magic. He understands that magic is just undiscovered science.
What a waste of opportunity here. Disappointed!!
3. Wanda in the end was able to destroy the dark hold from every universe and yet she couldn't find something like this before. WTF!? That's a huge plot hole. I mean imagine if you have that much power and yet you are struggling to find something more specific in your own universe.
4. She was able to defeat so many big threats and yet she was lost and busy handling a wave of water that Dr Strange created to trick her. This is so inconsistent her power-wise throughout the movie.
5. She can warp reality and yet she wasn't doing that later part of the movie. That's so dumb!
6. American Chavez was copied from Wonder Woman character so she has super strength, but we didn't see that here. Even if she is young and doesn't understand her powers, she should have them. It's common sense. After Endgame, Kevin Feige went mad, he threw out comics basically.
I must say that despite many exciting cameos, this movie could not hold up to the standard. By the way, since they now showed Professor X,
what would happen to Wanda's origin. She was supposed to be the daughter of Magneto, you know..best friend of Professor X!!
The whole movie felt like they are trying to surprise us with surprising cameos more than anything.
But not every movie can be Spider-Man No Way Home.
